Goal Statement
Montessori International has been green since its inception as a school. A concern for the earth and for the individual’s place in it is one foundation of the Montessori educational philosophy. As a small school with the majority of our children under the age of 6, we focus on introducing the need for environmental stewardship to these young students. We then expand this during the elementary years. This will continue to guide us in future years. Our elementary students often guide our environmental activities. A component of the Montessori philosophy is to follow the child as we enhance their natural inquisitiveness. Unlike larger schools, we do not have a class of 30 5th graders. Our Upper Elementary class is composed of grades 4-5-6 and usually has about 24 student spread throughout those closes. So our steps are small ones not grand gestures. However this is made important by the hands on experience they gain. As we continue to grow we are ever mindful of the need to lessen our energy footprint and to be sustainable. These tenets will guide us in the future.
