Objective 1: Systemic Sustainability
All students are involved in the study of the environment and environmental issues in the classroom, on the school grounds, and in the local community. In addition to age appropriate environmental curriculum, all our classes are involved in hands-on learning.
Toddlers learn about seeds and plants by caring for their own garden. The fruits of their labors are then used for snack!
Primary students plant and maintain plants for their classroom and outside area, plant/germinate seeds for the Elementary gardens, raise and release Monarch butterflies, incorporate nature in their artwork, and use the school grounds as a living laboratory for plants and animals.
Elementary students have raised worms for compost, raise and release Monarch butterflies, plant and tend vegetable gardens. They are involved in nature hikes, overnight camping, and excursions to Echo Hill and Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.
