Objective 2 2.4 Habitation Restoration - Butterfly Garden
After generous assistance from an alumni (who prepared back-braking ground and provided some initial milkweed plants), the Upper Elementary students have been working on creating a butterfly garden in the garden beds adjacent to their clasroom. This has been an ongoing project for a couple of years and our milkweed has fed a lot of monarchs! The Upper Elementary students got very interested in native plants this year and the plight of the bee decided that they need to make the area where milkweed was plated into a true native pollinator garden. This year they have studied native plants, investigated and planted a 'winter sowing', experimenting with tented plantings, and will continue continue this activity into the next school year.
